Count on Kanye West to fulfill mandated community-service hours in the chicest way possible.
The rapper/fashionisto/Mr. Kim Kardashian came to an agreement in March that, after he was charged with attacking a paparazzo, he would avoid serving any jail time by undergoing 24 months of informal probation and completing 250 hours of community service. And it was reported yesterday by TMZ that West has been clocking hours against that requirement by speaking at various colleges about fashion, which, for West, sounds like the kind of thing he’d do in his spare time, anyway (in fact, heswung by the Harvard Graduate School of Design in November, ostensibly for fun, with Kardashian playing his publicist, tweeting pictures).
West visited the L.A. Trade Technical College on Monday—reportedly his third appearance at the school in the past six months—where he talked “about designers” for three hours. And some two months ago, per an Instagram posted by a student, West spoke to graduates at the school “about the business of fashion and his personal experience within the fashion industry.” That this counts as community service is pretty awesome (does this means Lindsay Lohan should have asked if taking selfies and filming her documentary—both means of edifying the public!—could have counted for her?).
What lessons do we imagine West had to impart? When in doubt, put on black leather pants, a loose T-shirt, and call it a day, surely. And: know when to let others take the focus.
